An icecream on Exmouth beach

After spending a few days in Exeter, we took the train and decided to head to the wonderful coast of Exmouth. We were in need of a long walk and a fix of fanastic british coastline!
Exmouth is situted quite understandably at the mouth of the river Exe. Watersports are a big deal in this part of the world and one can often see many wind and kite surfers when the weather is good.
The seaside town is a short 20 minute journey from Exeter and one can enjoy a relaxing, leisurely 2 mile walk along the beach. There are also many cycle paths in Exmouth where tourists can rent a bike and visit near-by Budleigh Salterton or Littleham. There are many different options where tourists can stay in Exmouth, but it is often recommended to book early, especially in the Summer months, as Exmouth is home to one of the busiest holiday parks in the whole of England.
The town is very quiet during the Winter but this makes for a peaceful and relaxing stay for any tourist.

Exeter

My husband and I began our trip in this city of Exeter, the regions capital. Quite a diverse city to say the least! The city is located on the River Exe and although is a popular destination for tourists, is not completely over-run with holiday-makers.
It is an extremely cultural city with many live-music venues and excellent theatre spaces such as the Pheonix, the Barnfield Theatre and the Northcott-Theatre which is located on the University of Exeter campus. All the theatres mentioned have a diverse selection of performances taking place throughout the year. The city has also been lucky to have a brand new shopping centre built within the last few years. Princesshay shopping centre is now home to many large, retail clothing stores and food outlets. However, Exeter still maintains its underground 'edge' by maintaing a strong 'independent' selection of shops. Most of these independent stores are located on Gandy Street where one can find crafts, gifts and jewellery. Furthermore, the Guildhall, England's oldest municipial building, is also located in Exeter and is the home to a mix of independent shops and chain stores.
There are also many famous religious buildings located in Exeter. Exeter Cathedral, for example, was founded in 1050 and is now set amongst a leafy, grass land in the centre of the city. Many business professionals as well as students meet here to socialise and catch-up on their lunch breaks. There are many cafés and restaurants located near-by and I would definitely recommend it as a great place to sit, have lunch and take-in Exeter's vibrant atmosphere.
There are various types of accommodation available in the city. We stayed slightly further out but the city is blessed with fantastic transport connections by bus and train so one is never far away from all of the sights and points of interest.

Who needs abroad when you can go to Devon

My name is Jane Carter. I am scared of flying and have therefore spent most of my life on the British Isles. Caravaning and Camping have been my main holiday themes over the last 25 years and they have been far from exhilarating or life changing holidays. Until last month...when I went to Devon. That little gem in the south west of England. I have ranted and raved to so many of my friends at home that someone finally said, 'Jane, you need to write this down. Tell someone else...we're bored of hearing it' Pff...they're just jealous. Jealous that they spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds every year jetting away to all parts of Europe in the hope of finding relaxation and happiness when all I did was drive down the motorway for a few hours. I didn't even need my passport!
Do read on...I can't wait to tell you about it.
